Celebrating a Muse
Today would’ve been Michael Hutchence's 64th Birthday. I was fortunate enough to meet him back in August of 1986 with most of INXS. That isn’t what this post is about.
Some of you know and some are new, that when I wrote Worth Waiting For, the original title. (Love is Worth Waiting For - Current title) I created the character of Russell Langford. He was just a very minor character and I didn't think I would use him again.
After I released my book I was stuck. Nothing was coming, so in January 2020, I sat down and started creating character bibles for Nigel, Ava, and Johnny, and suddenly Russell found his voice. I thought what the heck? This wasn't right, but there he was dressed in the guise of Michael Hutchence.
While I liked INXS and even got to meet Michael I wasn't crazy about him. He never inspired me to write, but now he had.
While I love having the inspiration suddenly he was there to take Ava away from Nigel and change the story. As a writer, you can decide whether to take a journey with the characters or not. Well, I did and wrote 82k in February of 2020. It is a story about Ava and Russell. Where it came from, I didn't know. Helen came to light then too, but she wasn't the Helen that we now know. This Helen was a little softer and was a mother. One thing that never changed with her was her plan to get Ava and Russell together.
While I know some of you don't like Russell, you haven't heard his voice and after Gotta Get High, I'm hoping you will. Will Ava and Russell's 2020 story ever see the light of day? Maybe a bit, but it's hard to say. Anyway, here is a video that is similar to the one that offered me much inspiration after the 2020 period. I hope you enjoy it.
