Insanity’s Victim

Based on a true story

A man who once had everything was now sitting in his castle with nothing. It wasn’t a real castle; it was just a home, a McMansion some would say, but it was his. Well, not actually, he only owned half and the bank owned the rest.

He poured himself another glass of Jack Daniels and thought of all that he had. A beautiful wife of twenty-plus years, she had been gone for two months. His son, the boy he was so proud of, was starting a family of his own. His son didn’t have time for him.

Taking a swig of whiskey, he didn’t savor the taste like he used to. No, instead, it had become his medicine, his tool to cope with the insanity that played in his head. It had been the insanity that had cost him his wife and his job. He smiled as he drank the last of the whiskey and looked at the knife on the table. Ultimately, the insanity would cost him his life, he thought as he ran the blade across his wrist. His mind laughed at him as he bled. He wouldn’t die this way.

Blood coming from the cut, he grabbed the bottle of booze and walked to the garage, leaving a trail of blood in his wake. Started the snow blower and the car and laid down near the tailpipe. No one loved him, he thought. No one cared.

His son found him four days later.
